Results were remarkable. By day’s end, Casa Central from the entrance way to the back porch looked fresh and bright for summer programming.
How many projects did Citi and ServiceWorks volunteers complete? Fifteen sizable projects — seven indoor projects and eight outdoor projects.
Inside Casa Central volunteers painted sixteen panel murals, a large chalkboard wall, one large inspiring mural inside the program space, one large back porch outdoor mural, eight donated cubbies and they added a fresh coat of red paint to the Y.O.U. building front door. “I had a fun time painting. Y.O.U. feels welcoming and open now.” said Luis Cabrera, Casa Central youth participant. Volunteers also constructed two brand new “cafe spaces” with homework counters and stools.
Hard working volunteers filled outdoor areas with cheer, charm and blooms. Volunteers constructed and stained two picnic tables and landscaped the entire front of two buildings. A fresh coat of paint was added to fence and railings outside four Casa Central buildings. Volunteer gardeners pulled weeds, layered fresh mulch, painted three window planter boxes and filled planter boxes with petunias. The youngest volunteers painted ten ceramic flower pots to brighten the entrance.
Nancy Aguilar, Americorps VISTA offered her thoughts about working with Citi volunteers. “I enjoyed that the Citi volunteers got to find out about Casa Central and Y.O.U. and the impact that we have in the Humboldt Park community.”
Rosy Aguilar, Site Director of the Youth Opportunities Unlimited was very appreciative and couldn’t thank volunteers enough. “Thank you Citi Volunteers for choosing to come out and beautify our youth program! The beautification allows us to offer a safe and beautiful space for our teens year round. We will be forever grateful for your contribution as it helps us continue with our Casa Central mission of transforming lives and strengthening communities.”
Founded in 1954, Casa Central is the largest Hispanic social service agency in the Midwest. Casa Central transforms lives and strengthens communities with a network of services that build self sufficiency and improved quality of life.
